Egina FPSO Sails Away to its New Home

We are proud to announce the Sail-away of Egina FPSO to its offshore base located some 130 kilometres off the coast of Nigeria at water depths of more than 1,500 meters. The Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading vessel left our SHI-MCI Yard in the early hours of Sunday 26th of August 2018. It has been a fulfilling journey from the time the vessel arrived from our Samsung yard in Geoje, South Korea to this time. Integration of all six locally fabricated modules and other works took a period of seven months.

Despite the many challenges encountered SHI-MCI FZE has set the pace in oil & gas fabrication. We are indeed honoured to have been at the forefront of the industrial revolution happening in Nigeria and Africa. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this landmark project.

Egina FPSO project was developed locally to accelerate the pace of Nigeria’s oil production and the transfer of technology. It will add 200,000 barrels of oil per day, that is, 10% of the country’s total production. The vessel weighs 220,000 metric tons, with dimensions 330m by 60m, it is the largest-scale FSPO ever built.

Over 8 million man hours of LTI-free work was carried out by a diverse combination of Nigerian workers with technical assistance from some foreign workers to complete the in-country phase. It has been hailed as the highest in local content retention in the history of Nigerian oil & gas deepwater development. Commissioning is still ongoing at the Egina oilfield which was discovered in 2003 and is located at water depths of almost 1,700m, 200 kilometres offshore from Port Harcourt. It is operated by Total, in partnership with NNPC, CNOOC, SAPETRO and Petrobras. First oil production from Egina FPSO is expected to be in the last quarter of 2018.
